Brenn Rocks WU Campus
Brenn brings new life to campus center Friday night as they rocked out with Winthrop students.

Students gathered at The Edge stage Friday evening to rock out with Brenn, a band with roots in Tennessee and enough power behind their melodies to make you rock all night long.
Brenn is a group heavily influenced by electronic beats and bands like Pink Floyd, which can be heard in the lush vocal stylings of lead singer Joel Larabell. They have two albums under their belt, and have just released a third, entitled The Fury and the Sound. (Order the album at http://brennmusic.com/music/)
They were brought to Winthrop University by the DiGiorgio Student Union, who have been long time fans of the group.
“Ever since we booked them last year I’ve been obsessed,” Ally Temple, senior business administration major, said. “We fought to bring them back this year.”
The band, consisting of five members who play everything from keyboard to electric guitar, arrived at Winthrop Friday evening after a series of line up changes. Two new members joined the band onstage as they played to Winthrop’s students, a change that went unnoticed as the same familiar rock melodies flowed out to student’s ears.
This is only the second time Brenn has played a show on Winthrop’s campus, though they are one of the first bands to play in the new DiGiorgio Center. They first played in September of 2009 to a small audience in Dinkins Underground. Now they rock out to a much bigger following. Students lined up outside of The Edge early just to get a glimpse of the group, and many brought their friends to convert them to the groups following. Allaire Gehm, a junior education major, said that she dragged three of her closest friends to the show in order to educate them musically.
“I saw Brenn last year, and they were amazing,” Gehm said. “I told all my friends that when they came back this year, I was going to drag them to the show, they’re that good.”
Brenn played a mix of old favorites from their previous albums while throwing in a couple of upbeat tunes from their newest cd. Winthrop is one of the last stops on their campus tour for the year, which they will be playing to support their new album. They closed the show with a crowd favorite, giving students just what they came for.
“It was totally worth the five bucks,” Gehm said. “They played an amazing show and played some great music, it was the perfect way to spend a Friday night.”
